A Few Common Situations Families Bring to Us
A Blended Family Finding Its Footing
New step-siblings, new routines, and different parenting styles under one roof take real adjustment. Therapy gives everyone a structured space to work through it together.
Parents and a Teenager Who've Stopped Talking
By the time most families reach out, communication has already broken down. Sessions focus on rebuilding it, not assigning blame.
A Family After a Loss
Grief shows up differently in every family member. Therapy helps you support each other instead of grieving in isolation.
What to Expect in Session
Family sessions typically bring together the household members most involved in the concern being addressed, though the exact makeup varies by family and by session, sometimes it's everyone, sometimes it's a parent and one child. Your therapist helps set goals collaboratively, so the process reflects what your family actually needs rather than a fixed script. Sessions are available in person at our Lexington or Danville offices, or online.
How This Differs From Individual or Couples Counseling
Family therapy looks at the relationships and dynamics within the whole household, not just one person's experience or one relationship. It's common to combine approaches, for example, a teenager might see an individual therapist while the whole family also attends sessions together. Ask your clinician if a combined approach makes sense for your situation.
Family sessions are billed the same way as our other counseling services. Without insurance, you'll pay based on your clinician's license: $90 for a fully licensed clinician, $70 for an associate, or $50 for a supervised intern. Kentucky Medicaid and most commercial insurance plans are accepted too. Check our Investment & Insurance page for specifics.
