Therapeutic Intake +

An initial appointment with a clinician to gather developmental, academic, and learning history. This session helps establish context for how reading and language difficulties may be affecting daily life.

What is covered:

  • Developmental history: Early language milestones, family history of reading difficulties, and educational background.
  • Academic concerns: Current struggles with reading, spelling, writing, or comprehension.
  • Learning history: Past interventions, tutoring, IEPs, or accommodations that have been tried.
  • Behavioral observation: The clinician observes how you or your child presents during the session.

This intake sets the foundation for the evaluation and helps the clinician determine the most appropriate assessment path.

Tests of Dyslexia - Part 1 +

The Test of Dyslexia (TOD) is a comprehensive, standardized assessment specifically designed to identify dyslexia. Part 1 is the first of two in-person sessions.

What it measures:

  • Phonological processing: The ability to hear and manipulate sounds in words.
  • Rapid naming: Speed at which the brain retrieves language-based information.
  • Word reading: Accuracy and fluency when reading real words and nonsense words.
  • Spelling: Encoding skills and understanding of letter-sound relationships.

This session is completed by the person being assessed and must be done in person to ensure standardized administration.

Tests of Dyslexia - Part 2 +

Part 2 of the Test of Dyslexia (TOD) continues the comprehensive evaluation in a second in-person session.

What it measures:

  • Reading comprehension: Understanding meaning from connected text.
  • Reading fluency: Speed and accuracy when reading passages aloud.
  • Written expression: Ability to organize and express ideas in writing.
  • Orthographic processing: Visual memory for letter patterns and word forms.

Together, Parts 1 and 2 provide a complete picture of reading-related strengths and weaknesses to support an accurate dyslexia diagnosis.

Qualified Provider Interview +

The Qualified Provider (QP) Interview is a final session where a licensed clinician reviews all assessment results, integrates findings, and provides a comprehensive diagnostic determination.

What happens during this appointment:

  • Review of results: The QP reviews scores from the TOD (Parts 1 and 2), intake observations, and any additional data.
  • Diagnostic clarification: The provider discusses findings, answers questions, and explains whether the results support a dyslexia diagnosis.
  • Recommendations: Personalized recommendations for next steps, including reading interventions, school accommodations (IEP/504 plans), tutoring strategies, or assistive technology.

This final step ensures that all information is considered together by a qualified professional before any diagnosis is made.
