What Canopy
Assessments Offers
Canopy Assessments is the psychological and developmental testing division of Kentucky Services, serving families and adults in Lexington, Danville, and Paducah, KY. Every evaluation is built around the same core process: a clinical interview to understand history and daily life, standardized testing to measure specific skills or symptoms, and a feedback session where a qualified provider reviews the results and lays out next steps.
We currently offer five assessment types:
ADHD Assessments
Using the Creyos cognitive testing platform alongside the Conners-4 and CAARS-2 rating scales, our ADHD evaluations cover children, adolescents, and adults. Kentucky Medicaid covers the assessment in full. Learn more about ADHD assessments
Autism Assessments
For ages 24 months and up, our autism evaluations combine a clinical interview, the ADOS-2 diagnostic observation, and adaptive functioning testing (Vineland-3) to assess across the full lifespan, not just early childhood. Learn more about autism assessments
Dyslexia Assessments
For ages 5 and up, this evaluation uses the Test of Dyslexia (TOD) across two in-person sessions, combined with cognitive testing, to identify reading and language-based learning differences and support school accommodation requests. Learn more about dyslexia assessments
KBIT-2 IQ Testing
A focused 15 to 20 minute measure of verbal and nonverbal intelligence, commonly used for gifted program placement, academic evaluations, and general cognitive screening. Learn more about KBIT-2 IQ testing
Neurodevelopmental Genetic Testing
Offered through Ambry Genetics alongside an autism evaluation, this optional testing looks for genetic factors connected to autism, developmental delays, and other neurological conditions. Learn more about genetic testing
Who We Serve
Canopy Assessments works with children as young as 24 months through adults. Parents come to us when a child is struggling in school or showing early developmental differences. Adults come to us when they suspect ADHD, autism, or a learning difference that was never identified, sometimes after years of feeling like standard explanations never quite fit. Whatever brought you here, the goal is the same: a clear, documented answer and a realistic plan for what comes next.

Process
- Clinical Interview - A Master's-level clinician gathers your history, current concerns, and goals for the evaluation.
- Standardized Testing - Depending on the assessment, this includes computer-based cognitive tasks (Creyos), structured observation (ADOS-2), rating scales completed by parents or teachers, or in-person testing sessions.
- Results & Diagnosis - You meet with a qualified provider who reviews the findings, confirms a diagnosis if one applies, and discusses treatment, accommodations, or referral options.
Cost and Insurance
Kentucky Medicaid covers the full cost of every assessment offered through Canopy Assessments. For clients with commercial insurance or private pay, cost varies by assessment type and typically ranges from $250 for a KBIT-2 test to $1,900 for a full dyslexia evaluation. Frequently Asked Questions
Does insurance cover psychological assessments in Kentucky?
Kentucky Medicaid covers 100% of every assessment we offer. Most commercial insurance plans cover a portion of the cost, with the client responsible for a set fee plus any office visit copays. Private pay rates are also available for clients without applicable coverage.
How long does an assessment take from start to finish?
Most evaluations involve two to three appointments: an initial clinical interview, one or more testing sessions, and a feedback appointment to review results. Total time from scheduling to diagnosis is typically a few weeks, depending on the assessment type and appointment availability.
Do you test both children and adults?
Yes. ADHD and autism assessments are available across the lifespan, from young children through adults. Dyslexia testing is available starting at age 5, and KBIT-2 IQ testing is appropriate for students, adults, and professionals of any age.
What happens after I get a diagnosis?
Your provider will walk through recommended next steps, which may include therapy, medication management, school accommodation documentation, or a referral for additional testing. Many clients continue directly into individual counseling or medication management services at Kentucky Services.
